Hey, guys. I am here to introduce you Cloud Loong(dragon) cable manage box. This design is for Bambu Lab Year of the Dragon design contest.

The cable manage idea was inspired by Squinn cable organizer. Also, the talismans from Jackie Chan Adventures.

I don’t know have you watched this one before.

This cable manage box cost around 50g of filament, could hold up to 6ft cables.

Instructions:

Make sure clean your build plate before prints, also wait for part to cool down before you removing it. Bend or warp part could cause tolerance issues.

This design is based on regular PLA sinkage rate. The fit and finish and tolerance is designed to work best with PLA.

If you are printing with high sinkage rate filament (some slik PLA), there might be some tolerance issues. It will still fit (loose fit), but the tension caused by friction will be greatly reduced.

Design:

It is a very simple mechanism; cable will gap by the rotation motion of the center knob. But I want to have dragon on top, so you can’t print with center knob upside down and I need to consider how to put the cable in the knob.

So, I came up with a two-piece design, and locked two pins from the top pieces to the center knob.

I was thinking of adding some gear underneath and to have lock mechanism. But after the test, the friction with tightened tolerance will act as lock to prevent cable from loosening. So, I removed the lock system and made it simple.

After confirming it works. Now it’s time to make it a bit fancier. Made Loong (Chinese dragon) to rotate the knob, since it is year of dragon.

Printing Profile:

I made a few different profiles for this design. They all have been tested and confirmed worked.

Detail will put on each print profile and instructed with Pictures.

If you are printing with rainbow filament. You may encounter color does not match issue. I made a rainbow filament profile, you will print the box and knob first, then, lid, and the dragon last. That way you will get the best color result from rainbow filament.

You will get better color transition: yellow to orange.
