Description

Silicone socks are disposable. Buying them is good option. Making them is also a good option. I prefer to make them on demand as shipping is a bummer. I can make one and have it ready in a few hours where as I would have to wait a few days to weeks for it to ship. I noticed no one made a mold for the X1/P1P silicone sock so I designed one. This model will allow one to make 4 X1/P1P hotend socks at a time. This mold was designed using https://grabcad.com/library/complete-hotend-assembly-bambu-lab-x1c-steel-nozzle-1 to reference the silicone sock.

Additional materials: silicone, 8 #4x1/2" wood screws

Optional: syringe w/ catheter tip, pigment, release agent

This has been designed to cast using a syringe or gravity. The syringe is the preferred method. I suggest using a platinum silicone that is Shore 10A or harder. I have been using Dragon Skin 10NV.

Process: Print the parts. I have included the 3mf files I used to print the mold. I have made dedicated mold filament and print profiles to help ensure the mold holds the silicone. If the layer lines are not well bonded, seepage into the mold can occur. The input is a M10x1.5 threaded hole. Funnels are included for syringe or gravity casting. Many photos are included showing the process of assembly and molding. Release agent should only be applied to the surfaces that will be in contact with silicone.

Removal of the socks: the bottom and top pop off leaving behind the sock and nozzle positive. You will need to cut out cross from the center (red lines shown in pictures) so each sock will be removed independently. To remove the nozzle positive use a blunt flat object, such as a large Allen key, to push the nozzle positive out of the silicone and outer shell.
