Description

This is a simple shelf pin jig for use with the Milescraft CabinetMate spring loaded bit. I purchased the Cabinetmate before I owned my 3d printer and found that it was not useable to add new pins to an existing cabinet with the way my fronts are mounted.

The bit has a stop and a spring which is useful compared to just drilling with a standard bit and using a collar or marking with tape to prevent going to far and out the side of the cabinet. In order to take advantage of the this bit and maintain spacing I created this jig.

The Milescraft CabinetMate jig provides holes every 32mm, but in my cabinet the holes are every 64mm. In this design I have two reference pins spaced 64mm to go into the existing shelf pins in the cabinet. I then have reference cut outs for the bits every 32mm. There is a small channel down the center of the bit holes to provide a little bit of flex and allow dust to more easily come out while drilling.

I created this in OpenSCAD (you can download from the “Raw Files” button at the top) and setup variables for everything as well as loops in case you want to change the any of the pin spacing, number of reference pins, number of bit holes, etc. You could also adjust for 5mm pins if needed instead. For my needs I can take it out and move it each time rather than using more filament, but you can modify as needed. Built this with my first day of using OpenSCAD using the cheat sheet and this tutorial, very doable to modify the numbers even if you don't fully get it.

Please test on scrap before using on real cabinet! Using this with any type of bit besides the Milescraft ¼ shelf ping bit may result in unexpected results, adjust as needed before using on a real cabinet. No warranties expressed or implied!
