Description

This is an adapter for a 250g spool for use in a Bambu Lab AMS (enclosed version). This is specific to the style sold under the brand “3Dgenius” (see amazon), though it is possible others use this same cardboard spool type (see images). The ovals in the spool are used to interlock the adapter sides with the spool, but you could try without the ovals (.stl files provided also). Spool dimensions: 53mm ID x 140mm OD x 45mm. Adapter hub has 4 snap fingers that snap onto a recess on the other half of the adapter for a firm, confident fit (even with PLA). Recess ledge may want some cleaning up after printing.

UPDATE 11/21/2023: I added a second Print Profile that does not have the Oval protrusions meant to mate with the specific spool I had, so it should be a more common fit. Just make sure your spool doesn't spin too easily inside the adapter. Drawing with key dimensions also provided as jpeg's.

While the model printed perfectly I misunderstood the compatibility and had to be a bit creative to make it fit some of my spools of 250g filament

I appreciate your input. I've added some emphasis in the write up for others. Hope it still works for you.

I still think it's an excellent design and it works well for my cardboard spoons with the oval cutout. I was able to make it work with the others using a bit of wire

printed well except for some stringing in the center, but that’s probably just my printer

This printed fine but sadly it is too loose for the tinmorry 250g cardboard spools I have. I haven’t tried it on any of the larger cardboard spools yet. One of the tabs cracked away from the cylinder a little the first time I tried to remove it from a spool. I’m not sure if it’s because of the filament I used or what. I’m thinking maybe that’s what it is. Be sure to use a strong filament and make sure you have excellent layer adhesion. I can see this being an issue after repeated use if not.
