Description

SUMMARY:

This model is a set of coasters with a fallout theme. I've included a variety of coasters to pick from, and a vault to encase them. The latest vault is designed without threads, and instead uses magnets that not only align the vault sections, but also makes the coasters easily accessible.

Printing/Post-Processing:

If you decide not to use the print profiles, these are the settings I used.

  • For the coasters themselves, you can print with 0.2mm default profile. I recommend a higher number of top layers if you want to minimize the amount of infill that's visible.
  • For the vault, I used 0.2mm layer height on the bottom, and 0.12mm layer height on the top for finer detail. I also used 3 wall loops, and Arachne wall generator.
    • You will need to program in a pause on each piece to insert magnets. They will be pretty tight, but will print directly on top of them so they aren't loose when complete.
      • For the top portion, schedule a pause at layer 21 (if using 0.12mm layer height) or 2.6mm in height.
      • For the bottom portion, schedule a pause at layer 162 (if using 0.2mm layer height) or 32.4mm in height.
  • The cavity for the magnets is 2.6mm high, and 8.1mm in diameter. I used 8x2mm neodymium magnets and that worked great. As soon as the print pauses, you'll drop in the magnets. You will need to ensure they are facing the right direction, or it will not work. See the images for reference.
    • Note that all magnets are not required. You will need enough magnets on each side to align at least 2 sections or it won't be secure, but I recommend at least 4 in each.

CHANGELOG:

UPDATE (12/20/2023)

Added a non-threaded vault that uses magnets to close. This can be printed without supports, and automatically aligns the vault sections.

INITIAL RELEASE (9/28/2023)

Uploaded from printables. File includes the coasters, and threaded vault.
