Description

In order to use GRATKIT cardboard spools in the AMS, the CBAS series has been expanded.

The spool needs around 160 grams of filament with 15% infill, making it not lightweight but rather sturdy and smooth-running. So far it has always fit perfectly into the spools core. The Silica Compartment Lids add approximately another ~16 grams.

Updates

Assembly

To assemble, first remove a cardboard side of the GRATKIT spool and replace it with a printed half, some of the glue residue may need to be removed. Hold the spool and turn it over, then remove the other side, now screw the halves together until they are tight.

The Label Space Module (LSM) can be inserted into both parts of the spool, preferably when the spool is not yet loaded, and it may require some effort depending on your printer.

The Silica Compartment Lid (SCL) can be easily screwed into the thread of one of the spool cores.

It's best to wrap the filament with painter's tape beforehand to prevent it from unwinding on its own.

Accessories

This spool is part of the CBAS series and can make use of these accessories.

For those who prefer not to use the holes in the spool to secure the filament, here is the appropriate filament clip:

It did not fit my spool where the diameter of the hole is 78mm but this adapter is 82mm.

@MateuszD Hey - sorry to hear that it did not fit. Do you mind answer some questions: - was or is there some glue residue in the center? - is the core squished or oval shaped? - how deep is the spool? and could you provide pictures of it?

No glue residue, the entire center disc came out. Turns out another 2 spools I have are much different from the one I tried initially. Both have 90mm diameter. Your adapter fits in those fine, it's too small in fact. The other spool I mentioned in the initial comment was too too tight. Those ones have a 90mm diameter,
