Description

The rims and center ring are straight from Bambu's spool. And interchangeable with it. It is designed for Bambu's refill spools. But I have found that Elegoo spools also fit perfectly on it. Also Overture and Polymaker spools fit but are a bit loose, but they fit perfectly over the center rings of Bambu and Elegoo spools. So, I use them as spacers. Let me know if you try it with any other brands!

I recommend PLA because it is a lot stiffer than PETG.

03/24/23 - I've got multiple requests, so I uploaded a version 2.3 and 3.3 that remove the little notch on the inner ring. I left print profiles with versions 2.2 and 3.2 that still have the notch for Bambu spools. Note, I think the notch is important because it locks the cardboard inner ring so it doesn't spin free of the spool.

12/14/23 - WOW 7K Downloads!!! Some folks asked for a filament scale, Soooo here is v2.2 and v3.2!!! The left side of both have a filament scale. The right side is unchanged.

11/19/23 - Here is v2.1 and v3.1!!! The only difference is I added a 2mm hole in the Left side of the center ring for filament to be inserted when respooling. Though respooling isn't what I usually do. I actually have found that the cardboard center of other spools fit right over the center of this spool. Specifically, Elegoo fits perfectly. you just need to nip out a little notch. I have also done it with Overture and Polymaker. but their center rings are a little bigger and so are a bit loose. But, the center ring of an overture spool fits snugly right over the center ring of an Elegoo spool, which fits snugly over the center ring of this Bambu spool!

10/19/23 - Wow! 3K downloads! Here is Version 3! it uses less filament and takes less time. But it may not be as strong. I have been testing it now for a couple weeks without any problems.

9/29/23 - Uploaded v2. I completely remade the spool using Bambu's newest spool. The rims are completely smooth now.

Here is a remix of Bambu's Filament spool but with hexagons to use far less filament without sacrificing strength.

The rim filament holes are also angled so as not to introduce a sharp bend into the filament. Also, there are more of them around the rim.

This is interchangeable with the original Bambu rims.

Note: the spacing shim goes on the inside of the spool to lock the two halves together. Though I haven't needed it because they lock together pretty tight. But Bambu recommends it, so I included it.

Why hexagons? Because hexagons are the best-agons!

printing the fourth now, awesome, the only thing I don’t get is why isn’t there a hole inside the spool for filament…took my 2mm drill an put one in it, works like a charm! printing with 0.6mm nozzle at 0.3 layer height 👍🏻

I got my unit mid October 2023 as well. This printed spool is actually a bit smaller than the official Bambu spool somehow.

This is my first time printing a spool holder. It turned out great, but it's a little bit noisy in the AMS compared to the other spools. It may benefit from having a little extra weight or maybe rounded edges. I need to use it a little more to see how much of a problem this is for me but I love how fast it prints and with minimal material.

I have used 0.8 nozzle. One part was printed with the best 0.24 layer height and another one with 0.56 Both looks perfect. Thanks for great design.

Great design, has held up well and done its job the same as an official Bambu spool. I like that this design used a lot less filament while not compromising the sturdiness of the spool.

This is a great model that prints quickly and fits together well. It was exactly what I needed and didn’t use unnecessary filament.
