Description

This model widens one side of the spool ring adapter to stabilize a GRATKIT 1kg 199x62mm cardboard spool while it rotates within a Bambu Lab AMS.

Features:

  • Reusable
  • GRATKIT nameplate for easy identification when reusing

Instructions:

  • Measure your spool first to ensure it matches the specified dimensions.
  • Print one of each model for a single spool.
  • Affix the wide spool ring adapter on the right-hand side of the GRATKIT spool if you're facing the AMS.
  • See attached photos.

Considerations:

  • Print Material: Please print with a basic PLA or PETG to minimize any shrinkage.
  • Too Tight? Too Loose? Cardboard expands with humidity and contracts when dried. A cardboard spool that has absorbed too much moisture may cause the adapters to fit very tight. Placing the spool in a filament dryer, such as the SUNLU S2, for a bit should resolve this. Note, you should not dry the spool with the adapters attached as they can warp in the heat. Keep in mind that after a long drying session the adapters may fit too loose. This should resolve itself shortly as the cardboard reabsorbs some moisture from the air.
  • AMS Lid Doesn't Close? All of the spool adapters I make are less than the official AMS spool clearance limit of 202mm, as specified on the official AMS product page, and as tested within my own AMS. However, some people have stated their spools are rubbing against the lid with the adapters attached. It's hard to say what's causing this since I cannot reproduce the issue myself, however, I've created an AMS Lid Riser which allows you to keep your AMS lid closed while providing additional clearance for larger filament spools. It's a quick and easy print which you can find on my profile or directly here: https://makerworld.com/en/models/33133

Beautiful print but I had to scale it up by 0.5% to get it to fit without tearing away.

Thank you for the rating and feedback! If the adapters feel too tight it's likely the cardboard spool has expanded from humidity. This is very common even with new spools straight out of the packaging. My go-to solution in this case is to dry the spool in a filament dryer for a few hours to remove any excess moisture from the cardboard and apply the adapters afterwards. I hope this helps!

Might be a inconsistency on the GratKit spool, but it jams on retractin when the AMS is fully closed. What size do others have on their GratKit spools? Adding ring might be a bit too much. The print worked flawlessly and produced no errors. Tight to put on. Probably will try to swat the filament on to a Bambu spool.

Thank you for the feedback. This is most likely because the spool is rubbing the lid which is obstructing the rotation. While the diameter of the adapters is less than the AMS lid clearance limit of 202mm, there may be a slight variance with some AMS units. A quick and easy solution is to not push the AMS lid all the way down into the gasket which should give you an extra 1-2mm clearance. Alternatively I have an AMS Lid Riser model linked in the model description. I hope this helps!

the AMS is fine - but the Roll is just a smidge too big. Don't want to raise the lid, as I have PETG in the AMS most of the time for Support separation. I ended up transferring the spool over to an Bambu Spool (the Bambu inner Cupboard fits perfectly inside the GratKit core - a few dabs of glue ét voila) will keep the adapters for the next spool :-)

Thank you for the feedback. If the adapters feel too tight as if you need to force them into place it's likely the cardboard spool has expanded from humidity. This is very common even with new spools straight out of the packaging. My go-to solution in this case is to dry the spool in a filament dryer for a few hours to remove any excess moisture from the cardboard and apply the adapters afterwards. I hope this helps!

Thank you for the reply. If the spool matches the specified dimensions and the adapters still feel too tight to attach it's most likely because the cardboard has expanded from humidity. This is very common even with new spools straight out of the packaging. My go-to solution in this case is to dry the spool in a filament dryer for a few hours to remove any excess moisture from the cardboard. I have some notes regarding this in the model description. I hope this helps!
