Description

Show your love with a gift in a heart-shaped box! These boxes with lids are generated by printing in spiral vase mode. The small ones are suitable for jewelery. The larger sized boxes are suitable for candy.

The smaller box can be printed all on one build plate with the top and bottom set to print sequentially. These are printed with the .6 nozzle to make the walls thick enough and are printed at the .24mm layer height since that seems to generate the fewest glitches from the slicer. You can try other settings, but something about this model can produce glitchiness in slicing, so be sure to inspect the sliced model before printing for defects.

The prints in the photos use Quantum dual color filament, several kinds of Protopasta filamament, and Bambu Lab magenta. These boxes also look nice in translucent filament, but that shows any flaws prominently. I am using a combination of archimedian chords and the octagonal spiral for the top and bottom surfaces. This is intentional. I had some problems with gaps along the edges if the same pattern is used for both the top and bottom surface. You may want to vary these patterns.

This box project is part of a larger project to create boxes from polyhedra using spiral vase mode. This particular box is adapted from a couple of models for heart-shaped ruby jewels cut in the manner that jewelers do.
