Description

This is NASA fabric, it's a super satisfying sheet of hexagonal chainmail that you can fidget with our display. The model isnt fragile so play till your hearts content. The model is fully scaleable and a full bed print was included so you can create your own shapes by deleating indevidual hexagones. Simply import the STL raw model file into the slicer and separate the sheet into parts and delete the ones you don't want. For best results use a small layer size, I used 0.12 mm and it worked excelent. To change the face pattern, adjust the “Bottom surface pattern” I used the Concentric mode which left me with a beautiful hexagonal infill pattern.

UPDATE:

New geometry makes upgrades this model in every way

-Prints in 4 hours at .2mm

-Print on either face

-More accurate triangle reduction

-Slices faster

-Less lag when moving in slicer

-Now works at .2mm layer height

There is also a dragon scale and scnake scale version available on my profile, it looks amazing and is themed for the year of the dragon! Its a great model to use on costumes with color shifting filament.

Printed this out Basic PLA with the x1c. No issues! The finished product is super flexible and satisfying to touch. Excited to play more with the fabric design and test using TPU. Any ideas on how to link multiple of these together?

I have a linking piece in the works, having durability issues as well as requiring glue unfortunately. if you want a full plate I can add it to the raw files for you. if you do TPU make sure you do a small test piece first, I haven’t tested it yet

is the full plate version in the download only? or does it also have a print profile somewhere? this is my solution for now:

there’s no profile for it, due to the side of the file make world wouldn’t let me upload it without reducing the triangle count to a point where it messed up the tolerances

Dream come true. First attempt and it worked using PETG on my A1 Mini. So happy. Took about 7 hours overnight. See pics.

glad you like it! When you do the dragon one make sure to change the layer height to as small as you’re willing to go, the quality is so much better but it take a long time to print

you can’t connect multiple pieces together, if you want a bigger one you have to print a bigger profile

I used Flashforge's Burnt Titanium PETG for the first one, at 0.12mm and a number of tweaks, and printed on a PEO smooth build plate (it put the nice shapes on the top). It came out awesome. Stronghero3D's "Chrome Chameleon" PETG for the second one, at 0.16mm and a number of tweaks, and printed on PEY-starry build plate for extra sparkles in an already sparkly filament. It required some manipulation to get the floppiness of the first one. Don't know if that's the different PETG or layer height.

The print is awesome and is so fun to play with. Do you have a version with more hexagons that I can print (8x8, 9x9, 10x10, ect hexagons)? If not, how can I add more hexagons to the normal version?
