Description

A snap-on can strainer to drain liquid from canned vegetables and fruits. Hands-free operation.

It’s simple and convenient to use: Fully open the can, snap on the can strainer, then flip them upside down in the sink to let the liquid take its time to drain out while you tend to other tasks of meal preparation or cooking. It’s a time saver particularly if the canned food has thick liquid such as canned beans.

It fits the three commonly available can sizes in US stores. I tested it on an entire canned vegetable section in a grocery store and found only one odd-sized can from one brand that didn't fit.

This strainer doesn’t fit the big cans (usually 4 inches or wider in diameter) that sit on the bottom shelf in the store. I believe these big cans are not frequently bought and not worth designing a size for. But if you use these big cans let me know the size (and brand, so I can go test it out) and I will try to make one to fit them.

Easily print with PETG or PLA. No support is needed. PETG is more flexible and easier to snap on and take off, but PLA will also work.

Print profile is provided.

Although it doesn’t have prolong contact with the vegetable and the liquid flows through the strainer outwards from the can, please use safe filaments such as PETG or PLA.

Printed well and worked on all the cans I had. it snaps onto the can really nicely almost as if you think it wont snap on and then it does. I printed two one with arachne generator and one with classic. On this print I really couldn’t tell a difference with all default settings

One of the challenges of this design is getting it to snap on the cans securely but at the same time not so tightly that taking it off becomes too difficult. Your keen observatioin that "it snaps onto the can really nicely almost as if you think it wont snap on and then it does" confirms that the many design iterations are worhwhile. Thanks for the feedback.

Why are you getting rid of the good bean juice?

Many recipes using canned beans call for draining and even rinsing them because the liquid is mostly starch and salt which can alter the finished dish's texture and flavor. Getting rid of the liquid also helps to remove the metallic taste sometimes found in canned foods. But each has their own way of preparing foods, and I can understand if you prefer to keep the liquid in.

due to the porous nature of FDM prints make sure to seal this or else bacteria can make it way into your food
