Description

Intro

I love to design objects which I can reproduce x amount of times. And 3D printed molds are perfect for this kind of project.

Design

Here you can see products that you can use in three different ways:

  1. As a MOLD for casting ( in plaster or concrete or else ) little coasters
  2. As a COASTER
  3. Directly 3D Print a coaster

You choose which of two you want to use.

Print Settings

Same old standard presets. These models are very easy to print and they don't require particular settings. Just bump the quality if you want something more detailed.

Plaster Casting

I don't have a lot of experience in casting plaster and normally do this by trial and error. Probably a lot of you here will be much more experienced than me!

Anyway, to prep your mold for casting you have to find:

  1. Plaster / or any other material such as concrete to cast inside the mold.
  2. Mold release / I normally use dish soap or some kind of oil ( whatever you find in your kitchen is fine and please if you know a better way let me know )
  3. Spraypaint / this one is not necessary but if you treat your mold with it you'll have less trouble when releasing the casted part / I use transparent spraypaint
  4. Water, bin, or case to prepare plaster and something to stir it

NB! I normally read the instructions on the box of plaster and use that.

After we have everything I mentioned let's start the process!

  1. Spraypaint your mold ( if you want )
  2. Let it dry
  3. Use mold release and spread it on the surface of the mold
  4. Prepare plaster o concrete mixture
  5. Pour it into the mold
  6. Wait
  7. Release the part! :D

I'll leave you a video of me doing this. Hope that it would help! Chek it down here!
