Description

IMPORTANT: If you use a P1S/P1P and experience issues printing the top of the head, please configure the print profile speed to 80mm for the outer wall, and give the model 3 walls. (thank you user PavorMaker who helped figure this fix out.)
If you use the Textured PEI plate, a brim is necessary regardless of what machine you use. A brim is not needed if you use the Cool Plate in an enclosed machine, that has a stable temperature.

This Kohaku model comes in two sizes; short, and long. The short dragon has 14 joints down its body, the long has 25 joints.

The whiskers are just strips of filament that I have glued into the holes on the side of the muzzle, a filament size of 1.75mm fits in the holes nicely.

Due to the limit of 4 colours, the pupils are not black. A dab of acrylic or permanent marker works fine.

I printed mine without a brim; providing your hotbed is clean/freshly glued, you shouldn't need a brim either.

Supports are not needed, so don't print it with any or you'll end up wasting filament and risk damaging the joints when removing supports. If you are having issues with the toes/claws not printing well, do the following:

  1. Turn supports ON.
  2. Set the type to “normal(manual)”.
  3. Set style to “snug”.
  4. Tick the box for “touching buildplate only”.
  5. Paint the base of the palm/fingers/toes in support paint mode.

This way only supports are generated on the hands, and not anywhere else.

You can add another two segments to the LONG version tail and neck to make it longer, but due to limited space on the hotbed, I wouldn't make the model itself larger. I wouldn't print it any smaller as the joints will likely lose strength.

Pre-painted/coloured versions are also available!

The joints can move in almost all directions. The arms and legs do not move.

You can see the range of movement in this video:

i think we got a bad profile for p1s. totally fail for the head of the dragon. i will give a retry with one of my profile.

that is unusual. did the head come off the bed at all during printing? I only had that happen once near the end of the print which meant the horns didn't print inline with the head, and it turned out I hadn't put glue on that part of the cool plate properly. Just to be safe, if your plate was freshly glued when this happened, you can split the model into objects in Bambu Studio and add a brim to just the head.

Hello thanks for your answer ! design is perfect it’s only the profil with my silk filament . i check my timelaps the head was stay in place just start to made a mess in the middle of the head idk exactly why. i just give a retry with only the head i will pause during the print to put the rest of the dragon :).

Beautifully articulated model. Needs some tweaking (tail doesn’t taper as nicely as Shenron and the 6th and 7th links near the tail print too close together)

Thank you for the comment! I'll look into the link issue in 6 and 7 on the tail. (Judging by the pictures it's the "long" version?) I'll think about how to make the tail fan taper better without it looking the same as Shenron. :)

i have updated the link issues on the tail, so they shouldn't print as close now. I've also made the holes for the whiskers deeper because they weren't as deep as I thought. I will work on better tapering soon.

Thats such a beautiful print! I love it! My first try failed for some unknown reason - but the 2nd try was a full success! 5/5 stars

Nice design. I have not tested multi colors but I think how this dragon is laid out, you can paint the with different color and there will not be that much waste, I made a hole in the nose so I can push one piece of filament to the other side and with little bit of heating to bend it to the back. I didn't need to use glue as it was tight fit
