Description

Made this latch in Fusion360 to hold one of my doors closed that kept swinging open. It can be oriented left OR right depending on which body, 3 or 4, is screwed on with the latch part itself being just simply turned around. I personally used PLA because of color choice, but use the strongest filament you think it'll need. I used 25mm wide, 2mm thick adhesive strips to mount this to the door after cleaning. There's a recess in the back of body 1 & 2 that is 26mm by 30mm and goes in about a millimeter. The ends are screw on pieces to remove the requirement for excessive support when printing it. If you really need strength I recommend increasing the temperature and wall/infill count to reduce the chance that the layers separate, print profile includes 100% infill.

Fusion360 file is included for any mounting or other changes you may want to make. Total width of the latch at default 100% scale is 125mm by 30mm and sticks out about 27mm once assembled. The middle has a gap distance of 40mm and a depth clearance of about 19mm to go over a bump between the doors or whatever

The adhesive strip I used (1 inch thick) is found here: https://www.amazon.com

Thanks for the review. Yes, there is an issue with the screw snapping. In the print profile the infill is 100% and it fully eliminated my issue of snapping off easily.

thanks Andrew, I definitely did that. I used mine on a main door and I think that may have played a part, I did try and do 5* but it wouldn't let me leave the comment. sorry.

All good! I am glad you found the solution. On my first test print of the latch it snapped with almost no force, so 100% infill is the way to go, and I might even have bumped up the wall count!

Awesome, thanks for posting a picture. I didn't think of using it diagonally but that's a really cool application.

Works even width strong wind, no issues at all! For my needs I cut a shorter version, works fine too!

Printed well overall. The support covering the inside of the bases was a bit hard to remove, but not too much of an issue. Won't have to deal with anymore broken safety lock straps and the design is wife approved!

Looks amazing! Support was super easy for me to remove, might just be filament choice. Thanks a lot for sharing!
