Description

Say goodbye to cardboard spool problems! Say goodbye to respooling messes, say goodbye to electrical tape, caps, and 500 different spools you need to store and sort through when you buy a new brand of filament that comes on a cardboard roll.

This spool is designed to be the exact same size as the Bambu spools so it fits perfectly in the AMS and allows the unit to close properly helping to keep your filament dry. It prints in 3 pieces. 2 sides are exactly the same (so print 2 of them) and have a threaded end and a swappable center adapter to perfectly fit the inside of any cardboard spool that corresponds to it's size. I am making and adding adjusted center adapter sizes as I come across different cardboard spools.

How does it work?

  • Gently rip off the side of any cardboard spool. This takes next to no effort on the cardboard spools. Clean up the loose cardboard with your hands so you have your center hole exposed. (below photo shows the universal center adapter test fit into the center. You can place it in first and then screw the side on, but I find it easier to screw the side on first. This was just to demonstrate the fit)

  • Measure the size of the center hole so you can pick the right center adapter to use
  • Screw one side of the center adapter onto the universal spool side and insert the center adapter into the cardboard. This is a friction fit. You'll be able to turn the spool on the adapter by hand but it will require some pressure
  • Carefully flip the spool around and rip the other side of the cardboard off. Then screw on the other side of the universal spool side.
  • Done! To remove the filament, simply unscrew the sides and remove it.
  • Optional - Place a standard Avery 1" x 2 5/8" label (6460 code) to identify your filament type in the dedicated area on the spool. See model photos

Current universal adapters:

  • 82mm - Fits Bambu, Elegoo and Esun spools (others untested)
  • 88.7mm Fits Overture and PolyTerra  spools (others untested)
  • 76.25mm Fits Eryone spools (others untested)

Test Size Universal Adapters:

To save you time and money, I created miniture 7.5mm tall universal test adapters so that you can quickly print the various size adapters and insure that the fit on your spool works. These are the same size as the universal adapters except much shorter.

If you measure your other spool centers for other brands and send me a message, I can add more universal adapters for use, but you must be willing to test fit, send me photos and provide feedback so others can also benefit.

******All my print profiles are weighted so that the spool stays within 240-250g in weight when complete so that there are no problems with the AMS from your spool being too light.*******

Universal Spool Side
Perfect fit for Inland spools. Printed sides in PLA which broke when attaching to center adapter. Printed second set with PTEG and it works perfectly.

thank you- what size adapter worked for the inland spools? i’ll update the description. I had one pla side break on me when I tried to clamp/ screw it together too tight (I had a center adapter for a test piece that was a little too big). You can try adding an extra wall or two if it becomes an issue with pla, or petg is much stronger. Glad you like it and it worked for you, if you can let me know what size worked for inland I’ll make sure to update the description to help others. Your feedback is much appreciated!

FYI, 76.25mm is for Inland cardboard spools for PLA+ (tested). The 88.7mm will probably work for Inland spoolless refills as that's the size of the inner tube on the cardboard spools if they maintain the same size.

Works great on my overture PLA! Wondering what is the threads you used so that we can model other inserts for various diameters? I've got a Sunlu PLA id like to convert over.

The thread is m30x3.5. Youn can also measure and send me a message and I can add a test adapter for your other brands for you to try. Once we confirm it we can add it to here for others to benefit as well

Thanks and agreed! SUNLU roll that i have was measuring 76mm. Also would be handy to have a lot on one side to allow clearance for the filament piece that sticks down at the end of the spool. EDIT: Just saw you have 76.25mm for the Eryone, i think it might work for the SUNLU as well, i will test it out.
