The St Brigid's cross is a renowned Irish symbol. St Brigid's crosses are associated with Brigid of Kildare, who is a patron saint of the county and the only female patron saint of Ireland. The crosses are usually made from rushes on the 1st of February, La Fheile Bhride, St Brigid's feast day. The crosses are traditionally believed to protect a house from fire and evil.
