Description

Many small spools will not fit on the AMS Rotary Spool Holders; so I created a cap that clips into the end of the yellow posts (post numbers 2 and 4, with the hex shaped interface) that stops the spool from falling off. Fits spool ID as small as 34 mm.

I see someone made a design for posts 1 and 3 here AMS Lite universal small spool securing cap by Ludo - MakerWorld.
Let me know how theirs fits.

The nose is already broken when you put it in lightly - printed with Bambu Lab PETG, maybe I should try it with normal PLA

Thanks for the pictures. That is unusual for it to break like that. I have not tried it in PETG. I would have guessed it should have been fine, but I guess not. If you get to the bottom of what the problem might be, let me know.

Works Great. Much better than the clip I tired to use to hold it on. I wonder if you would consider adding to it with a cylinder going from the spool (18mm) to the 250g spool (41.5mm) to help hold it in place a little better. I printed the 'AMS Lite Universal Spindle' by Jeff Smith but it pushes it way too far out. Leave out the Spool Claw and go from the spindle to inner diameter of the reel and use the keyway to hold it on the spool. It might even retract after a filament change if connected to the spindle. I tried to do something in Bambu Studio but I am too new to get it centered properly and make it join correctly. Just an idea :-)

Unfortunately, I don’t have the AMS Lite anymore (returned with the A1 as part of the heatbead issue). However, I’d be willing to design a versing as you discribed, but I won’t be able to check the fit. Can you share a screenshot of your design?

As I learn more about this and Fusion360 I designed one and posted on Makerworld. I credited you for your design as part of what is needed. It is at https://makerworld.com/en/models/230520. Very simple but helps keep the spool from moving all around and possible tangle. I am sure you could do a better job putting it together and easier to assemble but this works for now.

@vinfer Excellent. Fusion360 is great! It is the best feeling to imagine something, design it in Fusion, then bring it to real life!

This works very well but please note this fits on the orange posts, not the green posts. They have different ends (on purpose so the spool holders only go on the correct one) and if you try to fit this onto the green posts the tabs will snap off. These are posts 2 and 4. Your photo shows this on an orange post.

Well... that's embarrassing. I am red-green color blind and I honestly thought it was green. My mistake, I know better than to not ask my wife or kids about these things. Anyway, I very glad it worked well for you.

I'm sorry for embarrassing you! The green-tipped posts have very different ends (remix maybe?) Circular rather than hexagonal. This cap works very well. Thank you for posting it.

No worries at all! I’ve updated the descriptions to avoid having someone attempt to press it into the wrong interface and break something. Thanks for your feedback!

Much better than the larger options for small spools...
