The construction of the Suippes swimming pool is part of the construction boom that began in the 1980s in France and the Grand Est region, as a result of decentralization and the delegation of powers to local authorities. It illustrates how sports facilities are becoming municipal orders, increasingly adapted to the needs of residents and users. It's worth highlighting the ambition required of rural communities to build useful and appropriate sports facilities, despite the difficulties caused by geographical disparities and the multiplication of contracting authorities. The shared ownership of the project (District and Army) reflects an innovative, up-to-date approach to diversifying audiences. The choice of an architect specializing in sports buildings, despite a modest program designed on the scale of the area's needs, makes this project a manifesto for rural sports facilities. The project carried out by De Busni, bears witness to genuine spatial and volumetric research made possible by the structural possibilities of glulam. It is part of a continuity that echoes two specific trends: the typology of domed swimming pools (Tournesol metal pool designed in 1969) and large-span structural experiments with glulam arches during the 90s. The Suippes pool, with its external arches, fully suspended framework, geometric rigor and relationship with the park, can be considered the culmination of glulam research. It also fits in coherently with the work of this specialist architect, whose work consists in designing sports facilities as deliberately identifiable and demonstrative "urban signals".

In 2023, the Suippes swimming pool was awarded the "Remarkable Contemporary Architecture" label by the French Ministry of Culture for works less than 100 years old. To date, the Grand Est region of France boasts around 200 buildings graced with this label created by the law of July 7, 2016. A collection that highlights architecture as a living practice.
