Description

Tock

Tock is Parcheesi / Ludo / Keezenspel / … but instead of using dice you use playing cards. You can switch pawns with an opponent, go backwards or divide steps over 2 pawns making the game a lot more tactical and fun!

Requirements

  • 2 decks of playing cards
  • super glue
  • plenty of filament colors or paint them manually.

Going the extra mile!

If you want to go the extra mile: there is a box in which you can put potpourri. Now your flower level is over 9000!! and you can really smell the flowers when you open the box.

Printing Instructions

  • Nozzle and AMS: everything is designed to be printed with a 0.4mm nozzle. For 8 players the total printing time is around 62.5 hours. Almost everything can be printed without an AMS, but it will definitely make things easier. The board pieces need only 1 color change, the pawns need 2 color changes. Only the multicolor box lid cannot be printed by swapping filaments at certain layer heights.

  • Prime Tower: enable it for everything except the box lids since there is no room left for any prime tower. The box lids will print fine without it, but the pawns absolutely need a prime tower for the delicate lines.

  • Infill: the difference between 15% and 100% infill is minimal since it will affect only a few layers. I personally opted for 100% anyway, so that the white flowers aren't accidentally partially translucent.

  • The pawns: when you're not using the 3mf file, add ironing only to the “player color” layer. Adding it to the black outlines will ruin the delicate lines. Also make sure you use a prime tower (or an extra object) since the first pawn's black outline will otherwise fail.

Assembly Instructions

You can use super glue to put it all together.

The boards: start with the white pieces, the rest will follow. The player's finish tiles are not symmetrical! But when you put the white flowers first there will be only one way to place them on the board. (Namely: the end with the highest flower should point towards the white flowers)

The home base: they are slightly diamond shaped but otherwise they are 180degrees rotationally symmetrical.

Finishing up: I used a clear shiny varnish on all pieces to give it an extra shine and to protect them. Make sure to air them for some time.

Connecting all board pieces:

Some of the white connector tiles will fit perfectly while others may be a tight fit. Press them together and slowly rotate them a bit to loosen them up. But be careful not to bend the pieces.

The Rules

There are a lot of variations in the rules but I personally play with the following rules:

Moves

  • Ace: start / 1 step
  • King: start
  • Queen: 12 steps
  • Jack: switch pawn with opponent (but not when they are on their own color, you however can switch your own pawn from your starting position)
  • 7: this can be divided over 2 of your pawns (7, 6&1, 5&2, 4&3) steps are all possible.
  • 4: take 4 steps backwards, not forwards! This move is very useful when you are on your start position. You cannot go directly into the finish since that would be like taking 1 step backwards and 3 steps forward!
  • If you can play a card you must play that card, even if it is disadvantageous!

Since 8 players might be too many players, you can always split the game in 2 or work in teams with the person sitting opposite of you.

The cards

You need 1 suit per player (from ace to king).

2 players is ½ deck.

4 players is 1 full deck.

5 players is 5 suits or 65 cards.

8 players is 2 full decks.

Each player can play only 1 card each turn. If they can play a card they must play it. If they can't play then they have to forfeit all their cards and wait until all players are done.

The rounds

The dealer deals for 3 rounds.

1st round 5 cards per player

2nd round 4 cards per player

3rd round 4 cards per player (totalling 13 cards)

Then you reshuffle all the cards and the next player will be the dealer.
