After an attack by Wild Men took the lives of most of the Bison Folk he knew and their meager belongings, Gravel devoted himself to the study of the enemies of the Faun, motivated equally by revenge and the drive to seek eternal glory by mapping and overcoming the terrors of the impenetrable interior of the Black Stump.
