Description

How do you determine the performance of a wind tunnel design? Test it in a wind tunnel, of course! Okay, okay, that's absolutely not true.

 

What is this for, then?

This is just a way for anyone to easily print a token scale model of my Modular Wind Tunnel for STEM Education project, mostly just for giggles. Yes, it does happen to fit in the wind tunnel as a test article of its own if you'd like to take a goofy, meme-worthy photo. The provided stand is compatible with the Gridfinity test-article mounting system used by the tunnel test section, but it also makes for a nice little display piece.


This is a one-piece print best for display use. An alternate play-set version is available here, with all tunnel components as separate blocks that snap together with magnets.

 

No, really, what should I do with it?

  • Print one as a Christmas ornament to commemorate the awesome year you've had learning about aero concepts
  • Print a bunch to give to kids as token mementos of the awesome interactive STEM demos you hosted for them
  • Remix the provided nameplate for the display base with your own text and use it as a gift or award. Add 6x2 refrigerator magnets for a satisfying fit.
  • Meme it - make it your new Benchy for all things meta-ridiculous in 3D printing.

Ok, how do I print it?

I have provided the STLs for the display base, nameplate, Gridfinity support base, and tunnel with an optional honeycomb flow straightener insert.

  • No supports or special settings are required for the display base, nameplate, or Gridfinity support base.
  • No supports are needed for the tunnel itself – print it on the small circular end (exhaust cover) and simply add a ~5mm brim
  • For the honeycomb flow straightener, print it with:
    • 2 perimeters/walls
    • 0 top layers
    • 0 bottom layers
    • ~35% honeycomb infill.

Pre-configured 3MF project files are provided for Bambu Studio, including painting for a 4-color AMS setup.
